Hey friend, it's Kristen. Grab your scriptures because we are going to be diving into Genesis 5,

verses 3, 6, 9, and 12. And they go like this. And Adam begat a son and called his name

Seth. And Seth lived in 105 years and

begat Enis. And Enis lived 90 years and begat Canaan. And Canaan lived 70 years and begat Mahalalil.

I have no idea how to say that. But it's not exactly a page turner. But these verses teach a powerful

lesson about family history and temple work.

When I first went to the temple, I would do the work for the person whose name the temple

provided for me. And those temple experiences were meaningful. They were powerful, but they were

missing something. Then in my 30s, I started doing family history work. I started researching

and finding ancestors who needed

ordinance work done. I learned the stories of these people and how they were connected to me,

and I printed out their names on temple cards. And that first day I went to the temple with my

own family names, I realized what had been missing, my family. As I participated in the temple

ordinances that day, I paid more attention

as I prayed for my ancestors to accept the work being done on their behalf. As I left the temple,

I felt like I'd drawn closer to heaven and that heaven had drawn closer to me. The entire temple

experience changed that day, as I shifted from seeing a name on a card to seeing an anxious family member just waiting for me to do their temple work.

Temple work is truly about more than just names.

So the takeaway of the day in five words or less is, bring family to the temple.
