| 0:14.0 | I've been working in nutrition for a couple of years now. |
| 0:17.0 | So today I'm excited to talk to you all about brain health and foods that you can eat to make sure that your brain is working the best that it can. |
| 0:24.6 | So our brain controls a lot in our body. It helps us with memory, movement, function, even controlling our organs and how we problem solve and think and feel. |
| 0:34.6 | So you can see that it's really important to keep it very healthy |
| 0:38.6 | and working well, especially when you're in school and work and doing all of the things every day. |
| 0:44.6 | Our brain also uses 20% of the amount of calories we eat. So every day you want to be sure that you're |
| 0:51.8 | eating enough. So eat enough and eating enough of the right foods. |
| 0:57.8 | When we eat greasy foods or high sugar foods, we see that we either get a spike in energy |
| 1:04.1 | or we start to feel very sluggish and not able to go about our daily activities. |
| 1:09.4 | When we eat sugary foods, we'll see that spike where we have a lot of energy, |
| 1:13.6 | and then we come crashing down because we just had that energy, we didn't eat anything to sustain it. |
| 1:19.6 | So when you have a diet filled with cookies or chocolate, that's what's going to happen. |
| 1:24.6 | Then when you eat greasy foods, it's a slower digestion type of food. And then that |
| 1:30.2 | will make you feel sluggish. You're not getting the energy right away and everything's moving very |
| 1:34.4 | slowly. And that's sort of what happened to me when I first started to get into nutrition. I went |
| 1:40.8 | into college and I was a very picky vegetarian and all I chose was French fries and cookies. |
| 1:47.0 | That's all that looked appetizing to me and I would take naps all the time. |
| 1:53.0 | I studied but then I just went to sleep, I went to class, I went to sleep. |
