Summary
Part Two of a thorough review of Careless People by Sarah Wynn-Williams picks up with Chapters 12-18. As the author begins to experience life working for Facebook as a new mother, the reality of how that milestone is viewed by her colleagues becomes apparent. More equally chilling and amusing insights about Sheryl and Mark are shared, including her experiences being included in Mark's luxurious travel, his private jet preferences, and the work, or lack thereof, that went into courting various governments. Awkward executive level dynamics and personalities continue to be revealed via Sarah's outsider's perspective as we witness her slowly becoming more jaded with each passing chapter. BONUS: a rant on Andrew Jackson
Books/biographies about Andrew Jackson:
Life of Andrew Jackson by James Parton
The Passions of Andrew Jackson by Andrew Burstein
American Lion: Andrew Jackson in the White House by Jon Meacham
Fathers & Children: Andrew Jackson and the Subjugation of the American Indian by Michael Paul Rogin

| 0:14.5 | a former Facebook employee who has now come forward to write a tell-all novel. Well, it reads like a |
| 0:20.1 | novel, and I am engrossed. When we left off in |
| 0:23.7 | part one, Cheryl had taken a very pregnant Sarah with her on a book tour for her book, |
| 0:29.5 | Lean in, to Japan. They met with the prime minister. Cheryl wanted her parents to be part of the meeting, |
| 0:34.7 | but they were like, no, your parents can't come. But her whole family is there, her kids, everything, and they're doing touristy things on top of wanting this meeting. And this woman, Sarah, she makes it happen. She pitches it in such a way that they say, yes, we will meet with Cheryl Sandberg. So they have a great meeting. She describes it and says, it's wonderful. They're talking about how they could help each other. They're talking about new features on Facebook. Because of course, it's not really just about the book. It's about Facebook. Always. Everything is always about Facebook. At the end of the meeting, she's like shoving a copy of the book into his hands and get a few photos of them before his team can be like, hey, no. So it's all very stressful until that happens. Then she feels like, |
| 1:11.7 | okay, I can just rest for a second. So they're going back to their hotel. They're in a van. And Cheryl turns and gives her a compliment. She's like, you're amazing. Thank you so much for getting that done. I don't know how you pulled that off. That was phenomenal. But she blushed, you know, she's not an asshole. |
| 1:26.5 | So she tries to sort of say, you know what? |
| 1:28.1 | It was a team effort. |
| 1:29.5 | Everybody in this band contributed and contributed. but she blushed, you know, she's not an asshole. So she tries to sort of say, you know what, it was a team |
| 1:28.7 | effort. Everybody in this van contributed and Cheryl snaps at her. And she says, learn how to take a compliment. |
| 1:34.9 | This was all you and it was wonderful. So per usual, like, okay, but the bedside manner is so lacking |
| 1:40.8 | that the message sort of gets lost into feeling like you're getting scolded. And people had wanted her to go out, go out to dinner with them, celebrate. And she's like, no, I'm tired. I'm going back to the hotel. So she's in the van with Cheryl Sandberg and her children and Cheryl's parents. And they're not really paying attention to her, which is kind of what she wants. She's like, I just want to be able to relax for a minute. |
| 2:06.6 | So they just start talking as a family. And earlier in the day, they had gone to McDonald's. |
| 2:12.4 | Cheryl had taken a photo, I guess, with chicken nuggets or something and then posted it on Facebook. |
| 2:19.7 | And she always points out, like, what a rarity it is for the actual executives of Facebook to use Facebook. But Cheryl did. |
| 2:26.0 | She went to the McDonald's corporate headquarters in Japan and she was smiling, eating chicken nuggets and burgers. But when people in the car start talking about how her children actually |
| 2:31.1 | ate lunch there, she gets upset. According to Sarah, she gets mad saying |
| 2:35.4 | she would never have them eat that kind of food. What if they were seen eating that kind of food? |
| 2:40.0 | They don't eat that kind of crap. Now, as somebody who used to work at a fast food restaurant, |
| 2:44.2 | and I mean, I understand that the food is awful for you, but I also get what Sarah is saying here, |
