Hey, welcome to a special bonus episode of Cubicle to CEO, the podcast where we ask successful founders,

0:05.6

the business questions you can't Google. I'm your host, Ellen Yin, and our guest today is Noah Kagan,

0:12.4

who many of you may recognize as the founder and CEO of Apsumo, the number one software deal site.

0:18.6

Apsumo is a bootstrapped eight-figure business making more than

0:21.9

$80 million a year. Our conversation today was inspired by Noah's book, Million Dollar Weekend,

0:28.4

so I decided to ask him to share with us five ideas he's implemented at Absumo that has made

0:34.7

the company more than $1 million each. Let's dive in.

0:45.3

So for our listeners, the context for this case study is I asked Noah to bring to this

0:50.4

conversation five ideas that he actually implemented in APSumo that each made

0:57.4

$1 million or more in revenue.

1:00.8

So these are five million dollar ideas in theme with his book, Million Dollar Weekend.

1:05.5

So Noah, what was the first idea that came to mind that you wanted to share?

1:11.2

The first thing is giveaways.

1:15.3

And here's the coolest part about it.

1:16.4

You can get inspiration outside of your industry.

1:18.8

So even last night, a million dollar weekend, we had a book birthday party, a zero birthday

1:24.1

because it just launched.

1:25.7

And so my girlfriend and I looked on Instagram baby shower parties for inspiration. That's awesome. And it was really inspiring. It was my girlfriend's idea. I was like, that is really, really smart. And that's exactly how we found giveaways where I was on a women's magazine or women's blog. And they were doing a giveaway for some trip to Italy. And I was like, oh, that's kind of interesting.

1:44.7

We should try to give away of software, absolute entrepreneurs, pay once, get it forever. And I was like, what if we did something that's like you get the software, like Dropbox, which I think is so cool, and we'll give it to you for life. And that will be our giveaway. and my partner then was like, all right, I'm going to build software so we can actually track it.

2:00.8

Like you give us your email, you share with the'm going to build software so we can actually track it.

2:04.0

Like you give us your email, you share with the friends, and they join and you get all these points. You can get points. So he built it in a few days, launched it. And I remember going to lunch. I was at lunch on 6th Street in Austin, Texas. And it was crazy. At noon, I looked at the Dropbox for Life giveaway. We had a quarter

of a million email signups.
