Smith and Callie Black. Hello and welcome to Big Picture Monday. My name is Callie Black here

0:12.6

with all the context you need to totally rock this week's Come Follow Me readings. This week is

0:17.2

June 1st through the 7th and we are studying the book of Ruth and then we're going to

0:23.7

start 1st Samuel and read chapters 1 through 7 in 1st Samuel. By the way, we are reading the

0:30.6

entire book of Ruth. It has four chapters in it. In case you're counting chapters. I am very excited for the stories that we are studying

0:39.7

this week because we're really going to focus on two different families and learn about how

0:47.5

they turned to the Lord even when things were not going as planned in their lives.

And then the second story that we'll get to in First Samuel will focus on Hannah and her son, Samuel.

1:21.7

1:30.2

personal specific stories. But just to get an overview of where we're at, we're still kind of in

1:37.0

the same place where we were last week with the judges being raised up by the Lord to save Israelites as they're going through various cycles of bondage and then repentance again.

1:49.6

Remember that judges, these judges are military leaders.

1:53.0

They don't have any sort of like judging responsibilities from what we can tell.

1:58.0

And so we're in this time period.

2:00.2

The children of Israel are still very tribal

2:02.7

at this point. Like literally, they don't have a central leadership. They're not unified. They're

2:09.0

just living in their own tribes throughout the land of Canaan. I mean, sometimes the tribes

2:14.2

would help each other out during times of war and we'll see that but this is

2:19.6

kind of the phase where we're at as we start here so let's start with a little bit of context for the
