Now, Naomi did not have an easy life.

While living in Bethlehem, she, her husband, and her two sons experienced

a terrible famine that became so bad the family had to move to the country of Moab to find food.

And while the family found rest from the famine, their sorrow continued because Naomi's husband

died. Still, Naomi and her son stayed in Moab where her sons found Moabite wives.

Even though the wives didn't believe in the god of Israel, they were good women. But that

happiness didn't last either. After 10 years in Moab, both of Naomi's sons died. With their deaths,

Naomi had nothing left to keep her in this new land, and so she started

planning her travels back home to Bethlehem. Naomi's daughters-in-law, Orpah and Ruth,

planned to travel with Naomi, but she told them,

Go, return each to her mother's house, the Lord deal kindly with you, as he have dealt with

the dead and with me. Orpa reluctantly and sorrowfully left, but not

Ruth. Naomi encouraged Ruth to return to her family and the comfort she would find there. But Ruth

told Naomi, entreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee, for whither thou

goest, I will go, and where thou lodgest, I will lodge.

Ruth showed loyalty and kindness to Naomi, even when no one would have expected it of her,

and when it required great sacrifice on her part. Sometimes we'll see someone being bullied or
