Hello, and welcome to another edition of the Byron York Show, the no-chit-chat podcast.

We'd like to get right into it, and what we're going to get into today is an odd moment

about Afghanistan that occurred during the President's State of the Union speech.

Now, I know you'd think, well, listen, I've heard everything I need to hear about the

State of the Union speech, and that may indeed be true, but there really was a moment

worth noting in that speech for a number of reasons.

The biggest to which is it had to do with the end of the U.S. war in Afghanistan, and

I'm going to start off not with the State of the Union speech, but with another speech

that Biden gave August 31, 2021, not even a year ago, President Biden gathered reporters

in the White House to declare that the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, which had been

disastrously conducted, to declare that that withdrawal had been, I quote, extraordinary

success.

Now, saying it did not make it so, of course, but Biden's position was clear.

No matter what the critics say, the exit from Afghanistan was a success, an extraordinary

success.

So I mean, all of the evidence, everything you could see with your own eyes, suggested

otherwise, but that was the President's position, success.

Okay, so fast forward, six months, I mean, that was only six months ago.

Biden goes to Capitol Hill, March 1, this week, to deliver his first State of the Union

address.

Now, usually, a State of the Union address is an opportunity for the President to brag

about the successes of his time in office.
