Summary

Doug and I are walking through the next season the Lord has for us right now, and it has me reflecting on so much. It’s a season we walked through 14 years ago when Doug’s parents were living in our home and we were caring for his sweet mom in her final days. And now we find ourselves here again, this time with his dad. As I share a bit of what this season has looked like for us, I want to come back to the truths that have anchored me, and what God’s Word says about honoring our parents and loving well in this stage of life. My prayer is that it encourages your heart, wherever the Lord has you right now. I'm so thankful you've stopped by.

So grab yourself a coffee or tea and sit with me a bit as we talk about how God's

0:22.0

word impacts every area of our lives as Christian women. Hello, friend. I'm Marcy Farrell

0:28.1

from Thankful Homemaker, and I'm so glad to be with you today. My Doug and I are walking

0:34.1

through the next season the Lord has for us, and it has me reflecting on so much.

0:40.4

It was a season we found ourselves in 14 years ago, and I did share about it in a couple

0:46.5

blog posts at that time. I've been blogging here since 2010, so for a little bit here.

0:52.2

But it was a time when Doug's mom and dad were both living in our

0:56.3

home, and we were caring for his sweet mama in her final days. And now we're in that season again,

1:02.9

but this time with his dad. So my dear father-in-law is living with us now. And dad, or as I like to

1:09.9

call him, Papa, has been more like a dad to me than a

1:13.1

father-in-law, and I love to call him my father in love. We're caring for him right now in this

1:19.3

final season of his life through hospice care in our home. Papa has had such an impact on our family,

1:26.1

and I just love him so much. This has been hard because we know we're going to miss him deeply. But he loves the Lord, and it has been such a gift to have him here with us, to hear him praying, to pray with him when we tuck him in at night, to getting family time together with our kids and the grandkids, which are his

1:45.8

great grandkids. He's had time in this season to chat with family and friends and visitors,

1:52.0

and it's really been such a blessing to us all. So even in this hard season, the Lord has been

1:57.8

giving us precious memories that we are always going to remember and cherish.

2:02.3

Papa stayed with us a bit after Mama passed away, but then he felt ready to go back to his home,

2:09.4

and he did such a good job on his own for many years. But there was also a season a couple years

2:15.2

back where he stayed with us during his cancer treatments of

2:18.2

chemo and radiation. So we'd already kind of walked through a bit of this kind of care with him.
