What's good? This is Rich, and you're listening to The Mental Wealth Show where I talk health, healing, and high performance from a life experience point of view.

0:16.5

And I say health and healing first because if you don't take care of those things, you're going to have trouble performing at your highest level, even if you think that you're already

0:24.7

there. And my goal with each episode is to provide you with at least one insight, nugget,

0:30.5

or perspective you can apply in your life today. So let's get right into it with Rich Recommends

0:36.8

and the segment name should tell you what this is about.

0:40.6

And this episode, I'm recommending a Dexa scan. And if you're not familiar, this is a scan that you go

0:47.0

into a location for, you get into a machine or you lay down in a machine that might remind you

0:51.7

of an MRI except it doesn't have this whole tunnel thing around you and you don't feel claustrophobic and what this machine does is measure

1:00.0

bone density and body composition and i find that a dexas scan d e xa is far more accurate than the body

1:09.2

weight scales that also tell you your body composition.

1:17.6

And then when I put it in this athlete mode, because this scale has this feature that allows it to compensate for folks who may be more muscle and maybe at a higher activity level,

1:28.0

it drastically underestimates, not even estimates, it drastically understates my body fat.

1:34.8

So what I'm moving to going forward is getting a Dexa scan at least a few times a year.

1:40.3

And I say going forward because I've done six of these things so far. Going back to

1:46.4

January 15th, 2020. And I'll give you a quick run through because the real power of doing

1:52.0

these things multiple times is the story that develops overtime as you see the way that you're

1:56.9

progressing. You see the way that your body composition is changing. You see that your bone density is going up, you see that your muscle tissue or your lean tissue is going

2:05.4

up, your body fat is going down, your visceral fat is going down. And visceral fat is the fat that

2:11.7

forms around organs and increases the risk for type 2 diabetes and I'm already pre-diabetic. So getting my body

2:19.3

fat down and getting this visceral fat down in particular definitely serves me well. And also,

2:25.6

this visceral fat can increase the risk of heart disease and even some cancers. So if you've never
