| 0:00.0 | Hey guys, Dr. Jay in the house with Evan Brand. Today we're going to be kind of giving our nuance take on skin and hair again. All of our topics and comments here are we based on patients that we actually see in the clinic. We've seen between Evan and I almost 10,000 patients over the last 30 years combined. So we have a lot of experience. Everything that we're bringing to is not theoretical. It's not like, |
| 0:21.2 | hey, I'm the blogger and I just want to get clicks. This is like stuff that we actually see and then we get results on. So we're excited to dive into this topic. And if you've seen other topics in regards to skin and hair on us, we're always going to make it a little bit different, a little bit more nuance based on what we're seeing in the clinic. Evan, how are we doing, man? Doing good. Tell me about |
| 0:37.7 | your skin. Did you ever have skin issues? Did you have acne in your teens or 20s? Like, what was your story? Yeah, great question. So I had, I had acne and I also had a lot of rosacea. I had very red skin. I didn't understand kind of like protocols and how to take care of my skin. A good topical protocol can matter. It can help. |
| 0:54.8 | I mean, there's definitely good soaps that are out there that can pull off oils, can strip keratin. When you do that, there's less chance of sebum and pores clogging, which can be helpful. Again, I've been a huge fan of 10% sulfur soap. It's been in the scientific literature for over 100 years comes from lava ash and i am a fan of low dose salicylic |
| 1:13.3 | acid which comes from typically like a birch bark white willow bark which is helpful very good at pH |
| 1:18.2 | balance in the skin cleaning out the pores i like that really gets the skin a little bit cleaner |
| 1:23.1 | i like a nice toner toner is great pH balance the skin open the skin, open the pores. I've loved a low dose, |
| 1:28.9 | which hazel is wonderful with a little aloe. And I'm a huge fan of a moisturizer that is an emuot oil. |
| 1:34.4 | Emut oil is used in a lot of burn victim units in hospital. It's an oleic acid, fatty acid, |
| 1:39.4 | that's very healing, builds back up the skin barrier. And a skin barrier is very important for skin health. |
| 1:45.9 | If your skin does not have good moisture to it, |
| 1:47.9 | you will actually over-secrete sebums and oils to compensate for the lack of moisture in |
| 1:53.0 | your skin. |
| 1:53.4 | And so if you're not using a good moisturizer, you will actually overproduce oils. |
| 1:57.9 | And those oils can then actually clog your skin. |
| 2:01.4 | And then the second thing is just excess carbohydrates and junky fats will also cause more oil production, right? So |
| 2:06.4 | the more insulin resistant foods, grains, remember grains convert to sugar in the bodies. And I say |
| 2:12.8 | sugar, these foods also convert to sugar, convert to glucose. So what do you think about like sourdough? |
| 2:18.3 | Like sourdough is super popular now. So if you have people saying, hey, I've got this skin issue, are you going to tell them get off all grains, including rice, including breads, including pastas, even if it's organic, even if it's sprouted, even if it's sourdough, would you say just ditch it? So out of the gate, I will have sourdough |
| 2:35.4 | at a very nice steak restaurant once a month. But you get clean. Once you know you're clean, |
| 2:41.1 | that's your baseline and then you can tweak in your 5, your 10% of the cheats and see how much |
| 2:46.8 | you can handle. And so for me, I may do rice like one time per week, a good, organic, clean, |
