We went to highlight it again because it's an issue so many couples face and so many couples

don't recognize it in their marriage. In this podcast, Christina and I discuss some distraction

of families of origin and how to make sure it doesn't cause

trouble for your marriage. How we were raised, our life experiences, make up much of who we are

and how we think. It's important to understand that and to set healthy boundaries so that

sharing one common distraction and how to keep it from messing up your marriage. Today's

distraction is families of origin. So to kick things off, Dr. Kim, what does that even mean? What is family of origin?

I think for most of it, it's the family you grew up in. And, you know, it can go out to extended

family, but certainly your mom, your dad, if you had anybody else significant in your life that

lived in the home you're growing up in, it's like to be siblings. It's the people really that you grew up in that you did life with in the early years of your life up to the time you left home.

And so you have a lot of impact on you. Sometimes you don't realize how much impact our

family of origin can have on us. So that's kind of what we want to talk about today.
