Hey, the Bird Show. I was startled by it the last couple of days when I talked to my mom.

I have seen it before. It's not the first time it's happened to me, but I think it's,

it was just a startling this time also.

So to give you a little history here my mom lives in New York City and she has been suffering

from dementia for quite a while now and she's in a facility, a memory care facility.

I almost forgot that's what they called it.

Looks like I'm next.

So I gotta be honest with you. Here's the struggle that I have telling about my mom is I'm a little

bit embarrassed by my lack of connection to the whole situation. My mom, very

similar to my dad, I just grew up in a very dismissive family where you know my mom wasn't

maternal like most of your moms were we didn't hang out there were not a lot of

hugs or were a lot of I love yous we were more a pain in the ass than anything else,

but with my mom and my dad.

So, you know, when my dad was suffering from dementia and he came to visit me for the last six months.

I've told you this before that it really changed my life because he and I were

estranged for so long. Both of them are terrible at keeping in touch

and having healthy relationships.

Terrible at it, right?

But in the last six months of my dad's life,

I decided to do the right thing,

and I said everything I'm going to do here

even though I'm not feeling it I'm not really connected here I'm going to do the right
