Today is the first day of winter.

And here in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, it is chilly.

I'm walking as the sun is rising.

I've got early daylight off to the east and it is going to be a beautiful day.

Winter is not my favorite season of the year.

In fact, one of the reasons we move from Maryland to South Carolina is to shorten winter.

Not to totally escape it because it does get cold here.

And there are times when we get frozen precipitation.

Since we've been here, we've had one snow and one ice storm.

Neither were significant. Both happened early in the morning,

and by 10 a.m., both the snow and the ice were totally gone.

So it does happen here and apparently

years ago, maybe even decades ago, this area had seven inches of snow which is practically

a blizzard for South Carolina. I don't even think Myrtle Beach owns a snowplow. The snow removal

system is wait for the sun to come up, which is fine by me. So we moved in part to escape

the lengthy winters. I don't mind a couple of months where things get chilly,

even cold, but in Maryland it felt like those winters were just going on and on and on.

We have a couple in our neighborhood who moved here from Minnesota.

And for them it was even worse.

And they even put that as the number one reason why they moved south was the winters were just,
