We like our independence, in other words.

We don't like being dependable, but that will feed loneliness.

For adults in the United States, I think the other thing that has happened

is we get, you know, people get married later, have smaller families. So it's like, you know,

they used to always say it takes a village. Well, when you had larger families, the kids were kind of all intertwined with

each other. There was always something going on. The outdoors weren't scary like they are now.

So there was a lot of time. I remember a time where, you know, when the streetlights come on

outside, that's usually the time you should be in the house, right?

Whereas now you can't even let your children, for the most part, walk to school.

You know, we used to live right across the street from our daughter's school where she was in third grade.

Literally, we'd open the gate and she could go in and we weren't allowed to do that.

We had to actually drop her off at the door. The teacher had to

see us. Same with pickup. She couldn't just come to the gate or walk across the street, literally

across the street. So I think all of that has added to it, which means that the natural form of
