The race is on, and Pierre Ghazley topped the first day of the final pre-season test in Bahrain for Alphiaree,

0:13.0

but it was Mercedes that captured the headlines by revealing its aggressively tightly packaged new sidepods.

0:19.0

But how well did those Mercedes changes work and have we learned anything new about the

0:22.9

relative performance of the cars?

0:24.8

I'm Ed Straw and joining me to answer that question and many more is Scott Mitchell.

0:30.4

Well Scott, hello, simple summary of the day, Pierre Ghazdi will be world champion.

0:34.5

Yeah, exactly.

0:35.7

Very, very good year in store for Alpha Tauri.

0:38.2

He's obviously learned a lot since his Red Bull Demotion.

1:23.6

his laps on board and then sort of obviously some of the external cameras and

1:27.9

car looked neat and tidy um maybe a little bit like maybe looked like it was not quite as sharp as

1:38.0

it needed to be um on corner entry and especially in the final sector that might well but that might

1:43.1

well be the softest compound

1:44.2

tyres, obviously, dying a death by the end of the lap. And the cars are quite understery as well.

1:48.9

Yeah, exactly. But you're right, the porpoisin was absolutely an issue. There's an amazing

1:53.1

driver-facing onboard camera shot of Pierre's head going for a properly wild ride.
