Hey, good morning. I'm playbook co-author Rachel Bade. It's Wednesday, August 7th.

And there is only one story driving the day today, and that's Vice President Kamala Harris's

announcement yesterday that she's chosen Minnesota Governor Tim Walz to be her running mate. Here to chat with me

about her decision and their first appearance together last night at that rally in Philly is our

national politics reporter Holly Otterbine. Good morning, Holly. Hey, great to be here. So Holly,

you were at the rally last night. Describe the energy in the room for us. Yeah, it was pretty electric. You know,

there was a big crowd. I think it was about 13,000 people or so at the Leocoros Center in Philadelphia.

It was a diverse crowd. It was a pretty young crowd. A lot of young people there. Old people,

though, too. Like, it was a very pumped up energetic crowd and it's funny you know

we we've gotten used to i think in the joe biden years like these sorts of rallies not happening

anymore it was just really striking to me to like sit there and just think like democratic rallies are

back like we just we we were getting used to like not

seeing them for a long time and and now they have returned. And I guess I would add to on the

energy like Tim Walls really did excite the crowd. He's got a little bit of the Riz. He's got the

charisma and he was making people in the crowd, like, genuinely laugh.

Yeah, I was going to say, I'm sure a lot of the Dems who pushed Biden out are thinking they're lucky stars that he listened and that they have a totally new dynamic on the campaign trail.

What would you say some of the highlights were of Wallace's speech?

There were a few that stood out to me.

He made fun of Yale, which, like, when's the last time you heard a

Democratic ticket make fun of an Ivy League? But no, he made a joke about, you know, how J.D. Vance,

you know, just like all of his friends from the Midwest went to Yale. That one did well.
