Summary

In the two-plus weeks since she’s emerged as the Democratic Party’s presidential candidate, Kamala Harris has yet to give a sit-down interview or field reporters’ questions — and that’s just the way the Harris campaign wants it. Why? White House reporter and West Wing Playbook author Eli Stokols takes Playbook co-author Rachael Bade inside the Harris’ campaign’s media strategy, and the follow-the-vibes political moment we’re in. Hey, good morning. I'm Playbook co-author, Rachel Bade. It's Thursday, August 8th.

It was a crazy day on the campaign trail yesterday. Needless to say, Vice President Kamala Harris and her new running mate, Tim Walls, were welcomed by massive, I mean massive crowds during a pair of stops in Michigan and Wisconsin.

Trump's VP pick, Jady Vance, meanwhile, followed them around, trolling Harris by approaching her plane, and of course, quipping that one day this would be his mode of transportation, and also telling the press corps that he came over because, frankly, he wanted

two weeks and still hasn't done any interviews or

0:54.8

gaggles with the news media.

Tired, as you are, I'm certain to.

1:06.6

So just to borrow from your headline in West Wing playbook yesterday, which was awesome,

1:11.8

why isn't Harris taking questions right now?

1:14.7

Well, I think the simplest explanation is she's killing it just going out there and doing these rallies, right?

1:21.6

Like people are comparing the enthusiasm, the crowd size, the sort of wall-to-wall television coverage of these rallies to Trump in 2016,

1:30.9

to Obama. In 2008, she's getting tons of earned media. You know, and the networks that were

1:36.5

glued to Trump in 2016 are seeing some of their highest ratings when they are just taking

1:42.7

Harris rallies, or now Harris Walls rallies.
