especially now that it's on the FM dial. This is TBTL with Luke Burbank on 97-3 FM.

It's just past nine bells Burbank Standard Time here on this Monday evening, and that means we

have entered the third and final hour of a TBTL. The show that's probably too beautiful to live.

This is episode 386 in a collector series.

Indeed, the great state of Hawaii celebrated its 50th year of statehood just last week,

and it's frankly amazing that they were able to hold it together as a state,

because even though they've overcome, what some would say was a sort of the imperialist forces

of the United States using their Pacific islands as more or less a landing strip during various

war conflicts, even though they've battled all kinds of problems that come with being

a kind of isolated island that's suddenly the number one tourist destination for a huge country

like America. They've had all kinds of challenges, but the great people in the state of Hawaii have

somehow managed to make it work over the course of the last 50 years, and we salute them.

It's particularly amazing considering what Jen's family did to them. What was this 10, 15 years ago?

Way longer ago than that. I like to say we're not as bad as Charo, but we did, we brought some

pleasantness to the show. What did Charo do? Kuchikuchi Kuu? Her restaurants are not pleasant in my

experience. I didn't even know she had restaurants in Hawaii. She does. She's a treasure there.

I was eight, and my little sister I believe was five, and we went on a family trip to Hawaii.

I was my mom and my dad, me and my sister, and my grandma. We all went to Hawaii, and we had a great

time. We started at Kauai, and then we went to Oahu. There were several times, I remember clearly that

there were several times where my dad said to my little sister, don't swallow the saltwater,
