| 0:00.0 | How's it going guys and girls out there in the world of gardening. My name is Kevin. We're back with the Epic gardening podcast and we've talked a lot so far this week about bees. |
| 0:09.0 | But how do we actually get them into the garden? We've talked again about all the benefits of them, how the |
| 0:14.5 | hives work, how honey is produced, etc. Okay that's fine, that's good, but what about |
| 0:20.4 | just getting bees in our garden? |
| 0:22.6 | We can't enjoy any of these benefits unless they're here, right? |
| 0:25.6 | So that's what we're going to talk about today with McKay. |
| 0:29.2 | How about, okay, so now let's get into a topic |
| 0:31.5 | that I think is probably gonna to be the most exciting for |
| 0:33.5 | gardeners which would be building a garden that pollinators want to be in. |
| 0:39.3 | And so this is something that I didn't put a lot of emphasis on until I would say this this season in the garden actually trying to make an environment where pollinators came because I'm in a small space and so you know if I need to hand pollinate tomatoes or cucumbers or something I can just do that it's not a big deal |
| 0:56.3 | But it does it does definitely sound attractive to have nature doing a lot of that work for you right so if I go out today |
| 1:04.7 | and I can see bees running around the garden well then they're doing that work for me and why would why would I not want that to happen |
| 1:10.7 | because I'm taking work off my plate but also helping build |
| 1:14.6 | I'm really I'm really naive to the how you would hand pollinate it yourself |
| 1:18.3 | like how are you doing that you use like a paintbrush or something you can yeah you can you can like a paintbrush or something? |
| 1:22.8 | You can, yeah, you can use a paint brush or one of the ways that works really well, |
| 1:26.4 | at least for flowers that have both organs within them, and they just need someone to kind of |
| 1:31.2 | jostle, is you can take an electric toothbrush and like an old head |
| 1:35.2 | and then just turn it on and put it on the back of the flower and it will jostle it enough that all the pollen |
| 1:40.8 | will just intermix and you're good to go. |
| 1:43.0 | Oh, that's so cute. |
| 1:44.0 | It's a cool way to get like near a hundred percent fruit set on certain plants. |
