How's it going guys and girls out there in the world of gardening. My name is Kevin. We're back with the Epic gardening podcast and we've talked a lot so far this week about bees.

But how do we actually get them into the garden? We've talked again about all the benefits of them, how the

hives work, how honey is produced, etc. Okay that's fine, that's good, but what about

just getting bees in our garden?

We can't enjoy any of these benefits unless they're here, right?

So that's what we're going to talk about today with McKay.

How about, okay, so now let's get into a topic

that I think is probably gonna to be the most exciting for

gardeners which would be building a garden that pollinators want to be in.

And so this is something that I didn't put a lot of emphasis on until I would say this this season in the garden actually trying to make an environment where pollinators came because I'm in a small space and so you know if I need to hand pollinate tomatoes or cucumbers or something I can just do that it's not a big deal

But it does it does definitely sound attractive to have nature doing a lot of that work for you right so if I go out today

and I can see bees running around the garden well then they're doing that work for me and why would why would I not want that to happen

because I'm taking work off my plate but also helping build

I'm really I'm really naive to the how you would hand pollinate it yourself

like how are you doing that you use like a paintbrush or something you can yeah you can you can like a paintbrush or something?

You can, yeah, you can use a paint brush or one of the ways that works really well,

at least for flowers that have both organs within them, and they just need someone to kind of

jostle, is you can take an electric toothbrush and like an old head

and then just turn it on and put it on the back of the flower and it will jostle it enough that all the pollen

will just intermix and you're good to go.

Oh, that's so cute.

It's a cool way to get like near a hundred percent fruit set on certain plants.
