Summary

The Amateur Traveler talks to Erik Smith about his home state of Michigan. Erik has been on the show twice before talking about National Parks but this time he tells us about the beautiful state of Michigan. While Erik is from the Detroit area and describes some of its museums and other attractions what he really recommends is the west coast of Michigan with its sand dunes and sunsets, Traverse City with its boating, and the wilderness of the Upper Peninsula. He does manage to work some national parks (Sleeping Bear Dunes, Pictured Rocks and Isle Royale) and state parks into the conversation. We also talk about the European-style of Ann Arbor, the quirks of John Harvey Kellogg and the unusual location of Edison’s New Jersey lab (moved by Henry Ford to Michigan). 0:36.1	into this week's interview I do have three news stories for you. The first one is
0:40.0	a good news story. Apparently with the tough regulations that the Department of Transportation
0:45.8	has put in place of fines of up to $27,500 per passenger for each flight that is delayed on the ground for more than three hours
0:54.4	or having fewer flights delayed on the ground. So you get what you measure.
0:59.5	And then you know how irritating it is when you go on an airplane and they mix up your luggage and you end up with somebody else's luggage.
1:08.0	Think of the parents that had the same thing happen except with two unaccompanied minors.
1:13.0	One was flying through Minneapolis, St. Paul, heading to Boston,
1:15.5	and the other to Cleveland, and they got swapped accidentally.
1:19.3	Unfortunately, for the possibility of a Disney movie being made out of this. They were not in fact two
1:24.0	identical twins separated at birth. And then here's an interesting story that came
1:28.1	from the AP. They say it's one of the safest places in America and it's getting
1:31.6	safer. If you guessed the US-Mexico border
1:34.6	then I'm surprised because of course all of the news that's coming out about the
1:38.0	border but they looked at the top four big cities in America with the lowest
