assertiveness in marriage. To kick things off, let's define

what we mean by assertiveness. How would you define it, Dr. Kim? I think if we're talking about a marriage

relationship, I think it's important to be able to ask for what you want and what you need. I mean,

to me, that's kind of the simple, simplistic of it. I've had people that are afraid to ask for what they want and need. And so trying to help them be able to do that.

But I think in a marriage, if it's going to be healthy, both of you need to be able to ask for

what you want and what you need from your spouse.

And one so that your spouse will know and then they can follow through on that.

I agree 100% with your definition. I think one other maybe adjective to tie to that to explain assertiveness is kind of like self-assured. So there is like a little bit of like confidence and self-assuredness that comes with assertiveness. And it's interesting, Dr. Graham, I feel like we're in this weird stage where a lot of us have weird thoughts and feelings and beliefs about assertiveness because our

culture kind of pushes assertiveness and selfishness and go get yours and you're in charge mantras

like almost like too far. But then for a long time in the Christian world, I feel like Christians

didn't have good boundaries with people and they kind of misunderstood God's word and they would
