My guest today is Ginny Gardner.

Ginny graduated from Cornell University

with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1974.

And in 2005, she moved upstate to Catskill, New York,

where she and her has been renovated and restored the former Lissium,

a federal-era building in the historic village.

In this episode, Jenny talks about her early career in the music video industry and how the layered

style of those videos informs her thought process in her current collage and painting.

Jenny's work is heavily influenced by colorist Joseph Albers and Johann Zitten.

As she will describe, she plays with what she calls equivalent

pallets. She creates a small collage or maybe does a thumbnail color study

which are typically just a few inches square.

And these are meant to work out broad issues in design and color before she starts on a large

painting.

Jenny then translates the collages into large-scale paintings, some as large as 8 feet.
