National Guard troops have started carrying weapons in Washington, D.C. That's according to a

Joint Task Force spokesperson, after Defense Secretary Pete Hegeseth last week authorized

deployed troops to start carrying them. It's part of President Donald Trump's so-called crackdown on crime, which he now says he wants

to expand to other Democratic-run cities.

On Friday, he told reporters that Chicago was his next target.

Chicago is a mess.

You have an incompetent mayor, mostly incompetent.

He also named Checked Baltimore and Oakland, California, where he argued crime is, quote,

very bad.

Officials who spoke with CNN say the plans to send troops there have been in the works for weeks,
