So, this evening we have James Ray. Now, this is a story of success, meltdown and then resurrection.

When you throw events, inspirational events, you do not expect people to die.

But in this situation, it did happen and James was sentenced to prison.

And we are going to cover all of that on tonight's True Crime Podcast.

Hey, it's my pleasure, Sean. Thanks for having me.

Where are you from originally?

Originally, it's hard to say. I've kind of been very eclectic in my upbringing.

I was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, but I grew up, I guess, my formative years was in Oklahoma.

So, if you hear a little bit of an accent that's still hanging on, that's where that's from.

And then, I was with AT&T for a number of years and part of being upwardly mobile was their requirement to be geographically mobile.

So, they moved me all over the place and lived in a lot of different cities and states in the United States.

And then, I'm in Henderson, Nevada now.

How did you go then from working a normal job traveling around to get into personal development?

Well, I've always been a quirky, interesting person.

And I grew up in the household of a Protestant minister in the buckle of the Bible belt.

And I have the utmost respect for Christian beliefs, as well as every belief.

And yet, I wasn't getting answers to the questions that I was asking.

I started, believe it or not, I started studying Buddhism when I was 18 years old in Tulsa, Oklahoma, down the street from Oral Roberts University in the House of a Protestant minister.

And that set me on a path of what you refer to as personal development, personal performance.

And I started voraciously reading and studying everything.

I was a very insecure and introverted child.
