Summary

Paul’s sole focus was on faithfully carrying out what God had called him to do: preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ. As Paul shares his mindset about his mission in 1 Corinthians 4:1-2, we pause to examine what God has called us to do personally and whether we are fulfilling our ministry faithfully with the single purpose of pleasing God.

I've always felt like I'm getting away with something, being a pastor at a church like this.

0:04.6

I'm so thankful to be able to share the word with people that are willing to do the work.

I saw a guy a week and a half ago, a well-known pastor in America, made this statement publicly

and went, you know, it went huge because people were a little shocked.

0:18.4

But he said, if you're, you know, if you're preaching sermons longer than 30 minutes, you're preaching way too long. And I thought, man,

0:25.1

I'm that at least times two. Man, you know, and I was thinking about that, you know, and I get

0:32.5

what he's saying. You know, people's attention span has decreased over time. And, you know, it's interesting how people will,

you know, want little shorter sermons. But I've always been thankful for times that I've been with,

you know, in my life, going through the Bible, getting some work done with my pastor,

0:51.8

growing up as a kid, going through the Bible. I loved, you know, learning the scriptures. And that takes work. If you're going to go through the Bible, you're going to need more than a half hour. In fact, not only do I take more than a half hour on a Sunday, I take double that or more, but I even do that double that or more on Wednesday night too. And so people would think, well, that's crazy. Maybe some of your family members

think, you're nuts. You go to Athe Creek on Sunday, you go on Wednesday, and if you're really a loony

1:16.6

tune, you go Sunday night as well. You know, I've had family members and friends that have acted like,

1:23.1

that's just dumb. Why would you go to church so much? Well, it has to do with being a faithful follower of

1:30.6

Jesus. Now, I'm not suggesting that people that don't go to church as much as you are less

1:36.0

faithful or something, but there is something, you know, in the old days, we used to call the church

1:40.4

the faithful. That's what people would call themselves. Christians, we're the faithful,

1:45.2

man. We're the ones faithfully following Jesus. But I wonder if today the church could be called

1:50.8

the fickle or the flaky. Not the faithful because we've become sort of a fast food society

1:58.9

and a fast food church. little sermonettes for Christianettes.

2:04.1

And if we're not careful, we don't become smarter in the word. We become dumber as we get

2:08.9

TED talks instead of Bible teaching. This is what we really need to be careful about. Paul's

going to get heavy in this letter to the Corinthian church. On Wednesday night,
