You're listening to the Love Over Addiction Podcast. Hey, so normally I try to keep this podcast clean, but today I'm going to be using some bad language.

I'm going to be talking about a personal story that I have permission to use.

My daughter came downstairs the other morning.

I was sitting on the couch trying to meditate.

And she said, mom, can I talk to you?

And I thought, oh, this is going to be an important conversation because when my kids ask me that I always

know whatever I'm doing I need to put down and give them my ultimate attention because it's

going to be a conversation and a half and she told me about her best friend, one of them.

Now for those of you that don't know and again I have full permission to talk about this from my daughter.

My daughter is gay and it's something that I am a thousand percent not only supportive of but excited about.

I always knew, I always knew having so many kids that odds were good that one of them would turn out to be gay.

I just assumed it would be one of my boys.

I don't know why I made that assumption was very naive. But when my

daughter told me I was thrilled. So happy and of course ran out and got a

bunch of books.

I already kind of had a speech prepared in my head because I had done so much research about

or heard so many gay people talk about how important it is when they come out to their parents,

how their response, the first couple sentences, really matters,

and I wanted to nail it.

So I was like, if my kid ever comes out as being gay,

I want my first couple sentences to really

show them that I'm supportive and loving and excited.
