This is Owen Jones, welcome to the podcast. The England football team took a stand against

racism and in support of Black Lives Matter by taking the knee, they were booed by certain

fans, racist girls, most of them, and the British government refused to condemn the booing

of the English national side, legitimising the racist avalanche that was then directed

against them when England narrowly lost in the Euro finals, three Black football players

in particular who were targeted. Now, the English football team are the most courageously

outspoken national men's team we've ever had. Why is that? Now, this is something I wanted

to really talk about with two people who really know what they're talking about, two

brilliant commentators, and that's Gary Young, who's had a massive impact on myself and

a whole generation of progressive writers, really, and a brilliant young writer called

Kemi Alamaru, who's from Manchester like myself, who is the culture editor of Galdem,

who you really must support, subscribe on social media and elsewhere, to talk about the

significance of all of this, what this all really means, have they filled a vacuum left

by the official opposition, which has kind of left the pitch, so to speak. Where do we

go from here? You know, is this the beginning of a new impetus for anti-racism in this
