Rehab was identified in the Bible as a prostitute. It's not a flattering reference to be sure,

0:13.8

but that was not the description that defined Rehab's life. Later, she was celebrated

0:18.5

as a woman of faith. So how did she rise above her sorted reputation? Today, on Insight

0:24.6

for Living, Chuck Swindall explains that Rehab courageously gave shelter to two spies. This is a

0:30.5

complex plot, so we'll begin with helpful highlights from our previous program. We're in Joshua

0:36.1

chapter 2. Chuck titled his message with a question. Are spies and lies okay in God's eyes?

0:53.6

Rehab's house was built on the wall. Interestingly, they stayed at that house. They didn't know her.

1:03.0

She hadn't known them before they arrived, but she was willing to house them and hide them. There

1:14.4

had to be a coordinated effort, so she had to be on their side. So something must have happened in

2:07.5

this second verse, gathers his soldiers around him and says, I want there to be a search party,

2:16.5

because there are spies in our land. So they went to Rehab and she had hidden the two men. We

2:24.4

read in this fourth verse. She replied, yes, the men were here earlier, but I didn't know where

2:35.8

they were from. Yes, she did. That was a lie. It was a circumstantial necessity. Had she said otherwise,

2:47.2

they would have captured them and taken them to the King. Let's read on. She said, as the gates were

2:54.3

about to close, I don't know where they went, so hurry and you will probably be able to catch up

3:02.7

with them. All of that was fabricated. None of that was true. It was a cover-up. Just as you would have

3:11.4

covered it up, or I would have for the sake of righteousness to carry out the plan of God.

3:24.0

And so the spies, the soldiers, make their way down and they go out of the gate when the gates
