0:00.0	Hi friends I am Annie F Downs. Let's read the Gospels. The Gospels are the first four books of the New Testament in the Bible, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. These are the stories of Jesus Christ life on earth, the friendships, the parables, the sacrifices, the meals, the miracles.
0:17.0	So here's how this works. I'm going to read three chapters to you today. We're reading all four books in 30 days.

0:46.0	One day some Pharisees and teachers of religious law arrived from Jerusalem to see Jesus.
0:52.0	They noticed that some of his disciples failed to follow
0:54.9	the Jewish ritual of hand washing before eating. The Jews, especially the Pharisees, do not
1:00.4	eat until they have poured water over their cupped hands as required by their ancient traditions.
1:06.0	Similarly, they don't eat anything from the market until they immerse their hands in water.
1:11.2	This is but one of many traditions they have clung to, such as their ceremonial
1:15.5	washing of cups, pitchers, and kettles. So the Pharisees, and teachers of religious law,
1:20.0	asked him, why don't your disciples follow our age-old tradition?
1:24.4	They eat without first performing the hand-washing ceremony.
1:27.9	Jesus replied, you hypocrites.
