Well, hello Passion City Church family.

This is Pastor Ben here, and we are pre-recording this for our Sabbath Sundays.

This is the first of two Sundays where we as a church will not be meeting in person. And let me explain why we do that and do a little teaching along the way here.

The word Sabbath is a Hebrew word and it means to cease or desist or to stop.

It's the idea of rest taking a break.

You see the concept in Genesis chapter one,

God creates the entire world in six days, and on the seventh day he rests.

Not to take a break, he wasn't tired, it was to stop working and enjoy what he made which incidentally in Genesis coincides with the first full day of humanity that human beings began life in rest and then stepped out to work, which is a beautiful picture of the gospel

actually, that God brings us to life. We do nothing, we rest, and then we work from that life.

God wove salvation by grace right into creation.

And so we begin with rest and then enter into work.

It's actually even in the way days are formulated in Genesis chapter one.

You see in the Hebrew calendar it says in Genesis one, there was evening and there was

morning one day, that the day would start in the evening, that when the sun

went down that was the beginning of a day. So you began your day by going to bed and

then you rose, that was the middle of the day. God had already been working,

and you stepped into what God was doing,

and then lived out your calling in the back half of the day.

So rest was woven into creation
