Well, it had been 20 years since the United States of America had won a gold medal in the Olympic 100

meter dash. Up until two weeks ago when Noah Liles ran a personal best time of

9.79 seconds in order to bring home the gold to the United States.

And the first gathering cheered at that, so maybe more patriotic, I don't know.

You don't have to cheer. But he brought home the gold and he reclaimed the title of world's fastest man for the United States.

And he did it by edging out the second place finisher by five one thousandths of a second.

Five one thousandths of a second, which is insane.

When you think about all the years of training

that that guy has gone through for that moment of his life,

like all the years of workouts and recovery

and having to watch what he eats and traveling to different meets and coaches and dealing with the ups and

downs of life like that he had to put together the most perfect and complete 10 seconds of

his life. 10 seconds of his life, so that he could

etch his name in history, and his margin of error

was 5, 1000th of a second.

And thinking about this, I was trying to consider what are the most intense

epic 10 seconds of my life and all I could come up with was being on one side of

Pennsylvania Avenue in the crosswalks blinking 10, 9, and I'm trying to decide if I can make it across,

but it has the big median in the middle and I don't want to get stranded out there.
