Anxiety. According to Mental Health America, over 21% of American adults between the ages of 18 and 64 will have a diagnosable anxiety disorder in a given year. That number represents 42.5 million people.

Only 20% of Latinx individuals with symptoms of a psychological disorder

talk to a doctor about their concerns,

and only 10% contact a mental health professional

according to the National Alliance on Mental Illness.

Yessena Retta and I will bring our anxiety specialties into one interview for you. We define what

anxiety is. We talk about anxiety in our culture, the symptoms that anxiety brings, and we will go over

where anxiety comes from, and provide you all with some tools to help

you combat anxiety. Latinos relate anxiety to nervousness, nervosismo, attack

Yacena Reta is a licensed clinical social worker in Bradenton, Florida.

She graduated from the University of Central Florida, Orlando, and has been a social worker for 13

years.

Two of those years in private practice and 11 of those years in school social work.

She specializes in teens and young adult.

Yaseña is a Florida native, born to Mexican parents.

Growing up, mental health was not discussed.

Emotions were not talked about openly.

In high school, she found herself wanting to help others,

but didn't know how to, until she took her first psychology class

and decided she would help children by having a place for them to talk about their emotions.
