Today we're continuing our series on following the events in Ukraine and everything surrounding

the invasion of Ukraine with my colleague, the wonderful John Daniel Davidson, who has

been following this very closely.

John, welcome.

Hi, Emily.

I think part of the strategy here on the left at least to the extent that this is political,

which is very political as they see it, is to distract from the failures of the President's

domestic policy agenda.

So, John, I wanted to start by asking you, do you think there is a concerted effort by

the political establishment?

And I mean, that on the left and the right right now to sort of shift our lens to foreign

affairs in a way that benefits them politically?

I think that's exactly right.

Part of the reason there's such enthusiasm for a maximalist policy on the part of the

Biden administration vis-a-vis the war in Ukraine is precisely for that reason, because

things are not going well.
