my friend Chuck DeVore, who's Vice President at the Texas Public Policy Foundation here in

Austin, Texas.

And Chuck is joining us to discuss the situation in Ukraine.

We're now a week into the Russian invasion.

And Chuck has been writing brief daily kind of dispatch analysis of the battlefield situation

in Ukraine for us at the Federalist.

And the reason that we ask them to do that is because of his background with the US military.

Chuck, first of all, welcome to the show.

Great to be with you.

Can you give our listeners just a brief rundown of your military background as a basis for

our discussion here?

Well, sure, be glad to, I guess, to put it one way.

I'm kind of a Cold War relic.

I signed up for the US Army in 1983 and got my commission through Claremont McKenna College,

ROTC in 1985 as a military intelligence officer.

And so in the Army back then, all of your training as an intelligence officer was predicated

on the Soviet Union and its allied military and the Warsaw Pact.

And it was about the equipment they used and how they fight and how they train, their

doctrine, etc.

And the theory was that this is the most formidable military you're going to potentially face.
