Summary

The Trump administration has staked all its capital on pushing data centers for companies that power AI chatbots. We juxtapose this effort to the weak sauce on many other economic policies to show how the promises to stand for the common man are not being fulfilled. We’re joined by Dr. Mitch Prinstein, chief of psychology at the American Psychological Association, who warns against a moratorium on state-based AI regulations. Dr. Prinstein shares thoughts from his riveting congressional testimony on the generational harms being caused to children from the sycophantic nature of chatbots supplanting human interactions. The harms are voluminous, and the need for guardrails is undeniable. We discuss how the very tech companies that broke the internet by transforming it into a data-mining and psychological manipulation tool are now being given free rein to exacerbate every existing mental health crisis among children. He ends by offering a list of ideas for states to pursue, ideas that other countries are already pursuing, as our government focuses only on the Big Tech companies. Learn more about your ad choices.
