The family moved into their dream house in December of 1975.

It was an amazing place, much larger than they ever believed they'd be able to afford.

It was in an upscale neighborhood on Long Island with a big yard, a boathouse, and even great schools for the three kids.

But from almost the moment they moved in,

the family started to notice there was something strange about the place,

as if they weren't in the house alone.

And they started to wonder if maybe there had been a good reason

why the house was so cheap.

At first, it wasn't much, they'd later report in a best-selling book.

Just some mysterious sounds and some locked doors and windows that opened on their own.

Not much, sure, but it did enough to unnerve the family.

They asked a local priest to stop by and bless the place.

He did, but it didn't go well. According to that book, he heard a disembodied

voice that told him to get out of the house, an unknown to the family at the time. He was pursued by

something back to his rectory, where he was attacked by hundreds of flies and nearly died from

some strange illness.

And things got worse after that.

The thumping and scratching sounds ramped up, becoming louder and more frequent,

joined by cold chills, strange odors and moving objects.

Some kind of green slime started oozing from the walls.

Clouds of flies appeared from nowhere. Their telephone repeatedly disconnected whenever they tried to call for help. One of the children began to have
