Summary

Talking points: growing up gay, LGBTQ+ issues, trans issues, culture Fair warning, this is a different kind of episode than the ones I usually put out. I encourage you to listen to it fully. Thanks to Amir for his candor and willingness to come on the show. Amir Odom takes time every week to reflect on…well, anything that’s been on his mind that week. Sometimes it’s current events, sometimes it’s a story from 10 years ago, sometimes it’s a conspiracy theory and sometimes it’s his alter ego “Jamal” going on a rant. You never know what you are going to get, but that’s what keeps it interesting. [05:17] - Amir’s defining moment[10:24] - What was life like for Amir growing up?[21:34] - Do Black Americans still face systemic issues?[27:27] - Is the culture most Black men grow up under not conducive? Why?[29:14] - Broadly, what’s going on in the LGBTQ+ community?[48:54] - Amir’s mission Connect with Amir -Website: https://www.amirodom.com/ -YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@amirxodom This podcast is brought to you by Organifi! All right, team, welcome back to The Man Talk Show. I'm Connor Bieden.

0:15.1

Joining me today is a gentleman named Amir Odom. And I just want to give a bit of a heads up and preface this conversation because it is

0:24.0

in some ways a departure from a lot of the content that I've put out in the past. And I wanted to give you

0:30.4

some insight into why this conversation and why now. So if you've listened to my show for a week, if this is your first episode,

0:39.6

do you listen to my show for a month or a year or the entire time that I've been running it,

0:44.3

you will probably know that I have steered clear of political conversations. I have steered

0:50.2

clear of cultural conversations, things that are happening in the now and the mainstream,

0:55.1

in the sort of collective cultural conversation. I've largely stayed away from that to make this

1:03.5

space a place where you could come to learn about personal development, human psychology,

1:10.6

you know, the opinions and insights

1:12.8

of experts from a broad range of whether it's like psychology or relationships or sex

1:18.3

and intimacy or, I mean, I've even had cosmologists on the show and astrophysicists and

1:23.9

those types of things that I find really fascinating.

1:30.7

And this is a part of that conversation.

1:34.3

This is an individual who has led a very different life.

1:37.5

And I think I've had a very specific type of curiosity.

1:47.6

Amir has grown up in America as a gay black man who marched with Black Lives Matters and left Black Lives Matters. And he has been, you know, online talking about the LGBTQ plus all the stuff

1:56.0

that's happening with trans and drag queens and, you know, the how gay people feel about it within America.

2:02.1

And I find this to be a topic and a subject that I don't know much about.

2:07.9

And I feel like he's got a very interesting perspective, having, you know,

2:12.4

walked on one side of the fence and departed to the other side, right, of the political

2:16.3

spectrum, I guess we could say. So I wanted to have Amir on the show to discuss this. And I try to take a neutral approach
