Summary

Talking points: porn, stress, hentai, isolation Every year, Pornhub releases a bunch of stats detailing how long people are watching, top search terms, when people are watching, and more. This data is from Dec 2022, so it's a bit old, but I wanted to share some thoughts on what some of these stats might be implying, particularly for men. This is an episode for anyone curious about porn's implications outside of just "sexual entertainment". I go into how it might be affecting (or a be a response to) other parts of our lives, and offer up some thoughts on what to do. This podcast is brought to you by Organifi! All right, guys, welcome back to The Man Talk Show.

0:04.0

Today we're going to talk about porn, and we're going to review some of Porn Hub's data.

0:09.2

Now, this data has been out for a while, but every year, Porn Hub will release their year in review.

0:16.0

And I took some time to sift through it and come up with some interesting perspectives around this because this data was released in like December.

0:25.0

You can go and find it, find the insights online.

0:27.8

But I wanted to talk about this because I recently put up on my Instagram stories, I put up a bunch of the charts and asked people what they thought.

0:35.4

And it was interesting to see people's responses, you know, like porn is disgusting and, you know, porn's a waste of your life and

0:41.3

all these types of things. And while I don't necessarily disagree with some of those

0:45.6

perspectives, I want to make one thing clear before I get into the data, which is, first, I don't

0:51.2

care if you watch porn. I really don't. I used to watch it.

0:55.0

I don't care about having a moral conversation about whether porn is morally good or morally bad.

1:00.3

But I was one of the men who couldn't just watch porn occasionally, right?

1:04.5

Just like there's some people who can't have a drink once in a while.

1:07.4

I really, in my late teens and early 20s, was the guy that was watching it every single day.

1:13.0

And it really was a problem. You know, like, I would watch it for sometimes hours at a time.

1:19.4

I would lose sleep. You know, I wouldn't go to work. Like, it was, it was not great. You know,

1:24.7

really wasn't great. And I didn't feel great about myself when I was

1:28.3

watching it and after I was watching it, because as most of you probably know, when you're watching

1:33.6

porn, it's a very easy dopamine hit, right? And so dopamine is like that, that feel good,

1:40.6

you know, neurochemical of more. So when you get a dopamine hit of something, you want to do more

1:45.7

of the thing that you're doing. Right. It's kind of like when you go to the gym, the dopamine

1:49.6

doesn't hit before you go to the gym, hence the lack of motivation to go to the gym most of the time.
