Hello and welcome to the Americano podcast, a series of discussions about American politics and now the Joe Biden presidency. We will be looking at how a 78-year-old president will change America, and we'll be asking if normalcy,

which is what he promised to bring, has returned to American politics. The answer, of course,

is no. I'm joined today by Mairead McCardell, who is an investigative journalist for the

Daily Wire,

and she's based in Dallas, Texas, and we're going to be asking her about the big clash in Texas over abortion.

Mairead, I'm sitting here in London, and I can read nothing over the last few days.

Everything I've read about America pretty much has been about this abortion law,

changing the law in Texas and about the Supreme Court not upholding an attempt to reject it.

And the sort of general mood has been that we are in hands made tale territory in America.

The dark forces of Christianity are succeeding in suppressing women.

I imagine the mood is not like that in Texas.

Could you tell us a little bit about what it's like where you are?

Of course.

Well, Freddie, thank you for having me on.

You know, every time abortion comes into the

national spotlight here in the U.S., the country tends to freak out about it and make it the only

topic that we talk about for weeks or months, depending how long it takes to go back to the status quo, which is usually

in the case of these heartbeat bills, when there's a court challenge that is successful

enough to make sure that the heartbeat law does not take effect.

In this case, in Texas, this is the first time that one of these heartbeat laws has actually gone into effect before a court could challenge and negate it.
