Summary

This is a Grave Talks CLASSIC EPISODE!

Are America’s most infamous haunted locations truly as the legends claim—or are the real stories buried beneath something far darker? When author and cultural historian Colin Dickey set out to uncover the truth behind America’s most chilling ghost stories, he expected eerie folklore and spooky tales. What he found instead were disturbing truths, twisted histories, and forgotten traumas hiding beneath the ghostly surface. From haunted prisons to sinister asylums, this episode explores how the stories we think we know often conceal even more terrifying realities. Prepare to question everything you’ve heard about America’s most haunted sites.

When Colin Dickie set out to write about American ghost stories and hauntings, he did not quite know

0:22.3

what to expect. Through his research, he dove deep into some of the most storied haunted houses,

and how many have a tale to tell that is much darker than we ever imagined. Well, right. I mean,

I grew up in San Jose, California,

so I grew up down the road from the Winchester Mystery House,

Ghostland in American History and Haunted Places.

1:03.1

And I think that probably my proximity to the Winchester Mystery House,

1:10.0

that was one of the things that really started it,

1:11.9

you know, sort of taking those tours as a kid,

1:13.6

being in that crazy wild Victorian house

1:16.5

that seemed to go on forever

1:17.7

and hearing those stories.

1:20.2

The other cool thing about San Jose

1:21.9

is the Rosicrucian Museum,

1:25.0

which is this crazy Egyptology museum smack in the middle of the suburbs,

1:29.3

which is another thing. We used to take, you know, tours like when we were, you know,

school kids, we would take field trips there. And so those two kind of weird spaces, you know,
