0:00.0	Hello there. My name is Tyler Griffin and this is Scripture Study Insights by Scripture Central.
0:08.0	Today we're going to cover Alma chapters 8 through 12. And these particular chapters
0:16.0	are a continuation of Alma's missionary journey as the high priest over all the church in the land of
0:23.6	Zarah Himmla. So let me begin with zooming in on this specific region of the land in Zarahimla.
0:33.6	Remember chapter 5 he was teaching in Zara Himla. Then in chapter 7 he went east of the
0:41.3	River Sidon to Gideon and in the beginning of chapter 8 he comes home to Zarahimla in verse 1
0:49.3	to rest for a short season from his labors. And then he goes west of the River Sidon out
0:58.8	to Melech and the land and the regions round about Melech over by the wilderness. And you notice
1:06.2	that he has pretty good success in Melech, but Mormon only gives us three verses concerning the preaching
1:17.9	and the success. All the people that he baptizes from all the regions around about in
1:22.0	Melech doesn't seem to be a lot of opposition there. And then it tells us that he goes three days
1:28.1	journey northward to the city of Ammoniah. And it's here where Mormon really slows down
1:39.2	in the passage of time in his narrative and he gives us many chapters. Life is very difficult for Alma,
1:48.3	the high priest or Alma the missionary, however you want to look at him in this role in Amaniha.
1:55.0	It's very, very trying. So as we dive into the text here from the portion from Amanayha, notice it says that
2:03.8	when Elma had finally come to this city of Ammonaiha, it describes what's going on there. It says,
2:10.6	now Satan had gotten great hold upon the hearts of the people of the city of Aminaeha. So if you were a missionary and
2:20.0	you were being transferred to a new location and you saw that as the description of the people
2:26.0	that you were going to serve among, it would be pretty discouraging. I love the fact that
2:32.2	in this telling of the story, Mormon embeds two times the word nevertheless.
2:41.4	So nevertheless in this context implies this idea of, in spite of what you just read, this is what happens anyway, or this is the counter
2:57.3	effect. This is the outcome. So you would read this, Satan had gotten great hold upon the
