You know, I first got dragged to recovery conventions and saw my first convention speaker, I thought, man, that's like rock star status in recovery, right? They fly in, they put you up. You get to go out of town for the weekend, you get to talk in front of a big crowd.

Be careful what you wish for. So here I am in Brownwood.

They took me to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan for a convention. I was in the basement of an Elks Club Lodge in Vancouver, Washington for a convention. There was a bowling alley upstairs. And later this summer I get to go to the land of

8 billion mosquitoes, Duluth, Minnesota. Not quite rock star status. But what I'll tell you is that

every place I go for conventions like this, there's always really good recovery. what I'll tell you is that every place I go for conventions like

this, there's always really good recovery. And I'll tell you that anytime I come to a place

where there are people who are willing to work this hard and spend the kind of money and effort

to find and bring in speakers, I know there's going to be good recovery. And that means a lot to me.

Because I do this stuff because it works.

It really isn't rock star stuff at all.

I usually lose a weekend and some amount of dollars in the meantime.

And I have no idea where I am or who I've met.

I can't remember names.

But I come away from it even more on fire than I was before

because I get to sit in a group of people like you who understand how exciting this stuff is because it works.

It is a little intimidating to come into a place like this, though, because I know to a certain extent, as an Alon at a largely AA convention,

I come in a little bit into enemy territory.

And that's all right.
