It's the story to end all stories, at least as far as supernatural mysteries in St. Louis go.

It's a story we've all heard about, but one for which few substantial accounts seem to exist.

It's the story of a possessed young boy in exorcism and the devil

coming to St. Louis in 1949. It's appeared in books, magazine articles, and

documentaries, but mostly it's been a bizarre mixture of urban legends, half truths, and outright lies that date back over the last 70 years.

But as we told you over the last four episodes of the podcast, we're hoping to straighten things out for you and try to get to the bottom of the mystery that it's haunted St. Louis for all these years.

This is part five of our look into the St. Louis Exercism story.

So if you're joining us for the first time,

we suggest you go back to episode 29 where the story begins.

Everything about this story is confusing enough.

We don't make it any worse by having you start in the middle.

In our last episode, Father Bowerne desperately tried to bring an end to Robbie Doe's possession,

moving him back and forth between several

different locations and even traveling back home with him to Maryland, where he

hoped to find a secure place where the boy could be locked up while the

exorcism continued.

As the terrible events progressed, Robbie became more and more violent, to the point that it became

unsafe for him to be left at his relatives home in Bel-Nor.

Unable to find a place for him, Father Bowder and returned the boy to

St. Louis and to the confines of a security room at the Alexion Brothers Hospital.

It would be behind those locked doors that the exorcism would continue.

Some of the most horrifying events of the entire ordeal occurred behind those brick walls.
