I'm Mary Mechley and I welcome you today to of this brand new year.

Happy new year as we continue with our series this week.

You are exploring the theme of new beginnings.

As you get ready to meditate today, you are invited to reflect on a word that might define your year.

And I'll be referring to this word throughout each week's series throughout this year.

So this is a word that you might select to represent your hopes, your aspirations,

something you'd like to achieve this year when you select your word of the year.

Try to think of something that's more specific, so niche down your word.

For example, many people often select a pretty broad category such as love or joy or health.

And that is fantastic.

But if you choose something a little more specific, you'll notice that you're more likely to tune into it more often throughout the year.

And you'll notice that you're more likely to achieve it.

For example, last year my word of the year was energy.

For me, energy represented how I'm feeling throughout the day, what's increasing or elevating my energy and what is causing it to plummet downward.

Consider for a moment what might be a word that could represent your year.

I'll share with you my word this year, it is focus.

Focus is pretty broad, but for me, I know that focus relates to how I'm giving my energy away and how I'm conserving it.

I noticed that I became pretty distracted last year with all that's going on in the world.

And especially with a loved one, I dropped everything to help out someone special in my life.

And in doing so, I really neglected myself and my goals and aspirations.

And so I realized that I need to use my energy more wisely.
