on Aesop's Fables Against Empires. And this episode is with the great Irish author Carlo Gabler.

Carlo is the author of 30 books, or more maybe.

He is the son of the famed Irish writer Edna O'Brien.

It was named after Karl Marx and has recently released a book called Aesop's Fables,

The Cruelty of the Gods.

So I just saw this book at a bookstore, and it was so alluring that I picked it up,

and I was just in it immediately. It's a retelling of Aesop's fables, with these great drawings by

the artist Gavin Weston. And it sort of positions them in this kind of modern way, but without

losing that flair of just talking animals and all that kind of weirdness. But this kind of modern way, but without losing that flair of just talking

um, aside from who Asap is and why he told these stories in the first place, which is in the

introduction, was really about, uh, the political condition that we're in now and how these fables create ways

for us to look into it, create strategies for fighting it, and also just sort of see and assess

the brutality of what we're up against. Also to indicate what forgiveness might mean in the cases when we're trying to construct a new

world and we're dealing with people who have done monstrous things and forgiveness of ourselves

or maybe reexamination of ourselves for our own monstrous desires and appetites.
