Hi, this is against everyone with Connor Abeeb, a weekly podcast featuring my conversations

with countercultural figures and presenting complex, philosophical, spiritual, and political

ideas in an engaging and accessible way. I'm so excited to present this episode about what

money is and what capitalism is with Conner McCabe.

Conner is a writer, a historian of economics. He's a researcher. He also does activism and

consulting with various groups in Ireland. And I think that what Connor does best is break down the complex forces of economics into language that we can all understand and sort of place them in a way that allows us to really tackle them and change them.

So, you know, the obstructionist language of economics is everything that this show opposes, which is basically, you know,

on this show, I tried to get into things in a way that makes it understandable for people so

they can grasp it, make it useful to themselves, inspiring, or just sort of fun, whether it's a

philosophical idea or an economic one. And Connor does that really well with money.

And we ask the question, what is money?

Why is it so bound to capitalism?

Why is capitalism so hard to throw off?

And what might post-capitalist money offer to us?

We do that by looking at the history of money and through

what Conner calls an invasion of money, which is capitalism. So he calls capitalism an invasion

of money. And it's a violent invasion at that. So, you know, rather than just sort of repeating

the theories that we've read, too, you know, although we do sort of repeating the theories that we've read, too,

you know, although we do some of that and I think that that's valuable, we also go into the

experiential dimension of what money is and what capitalism is. How does that feel to us as human

beings? What is it, what is exactly going on when we pay for something? And how might that

experience inform us in creating a new monetary system, a new way to approach money, which,
