Well, friends, right now, so many people are facing unemployment and uncertainty. That's really obvious. And a lot of them are asking, maybe you're asking,

how did it get to be this bad?

How is it that so many of us are just on that edge

where the economy can shut down for just a few months,

and it's really only been just a few months and we'd all be in this

precarious position where our entire lives could collapse and unfortunately before anybody even

gets the chance to answer that question how did it get to be this bad these waves of anxiety can

wash over they can overcome people. They can overcome

you or me. And the need to get a job is the imperative to find another job, to find another way

to make money. You've got to get a job or you'll die. And especially in the U.S., where to not

have a job is to not be taken care of if you're sick.

And of course, also, this is in the midst of a constantly blaring message that you will get sick.

You will need medical attention.

All it takes is a slip of the mask and you could lose everything.

The anxiety is totally understandable and so is the resultant action from that anxiety, scrambling for a job,

scrambling to find income just to keep afloat.

But can we, at the same time as attending to our urgent material needs, at the same time as that, also just take a minute to reflect on the role of work

and its function in our lives, or maybe take an hour and a half, which is what we'll do on this

podcast. Ask how do we get entrenched in this insidious wage labor relationship, where we're

servants to that really repulsive phrase making a living.

I hate that phrase. We have a living. We have lives. How dare that wage labor relationship,
