Hello and welcome back to another episode of the Truth Seekers podcast.

Today is our 12th day of observing Advent.

Advent means to come or the coming and so we remember the first coming of

Jesus to earth, and we anticipate or look forward to his second coming when he will return for us one day.

When the angel of the Lord appeared to the shepherds on the night Jesus was born, he made a special announcement.

He told the shepherds that the baby born in Bethlehem was the Messiah.

Can you say Messiah?

The word Messiah means anointed one.

In the days of Israel's kings, before a man was crowned king,

he was anointed. When a man was anointed king, oil was poured over his head and it

dripped down his hair and his face as a symbol that he had been chosen as the next king. When David was chosen by God as king of Israel,

the prophet Samuel anointed him with oil. The Israelites had been waiting for a new king

to come and save them from their oppressors, the Romans. The Romans were cruel to them and made them

pay money called taxes to their government.

They charged them with expensive taxes and not everyone was able to pay it.

If they couldn't pay, they would be thrown in prison and their homes and family taken away from them.

The Israelites were waiting for a Savior to come, to rise up and be king, to be the

anointed Messiah to deliver them.

Little did they know that Jesus was the Messiah they had been waiting for, but he would

not be an earthly king.

He had come to be a heavenly king to set them free from their sins.
