When Jesus taught a lesson, he often used metaphors to illustrate his point.

The imagery helps us understand principles we might otherwise miss.

Well today on Insight for Living, Chuck Swindall invites us to follow along in John Chapter 15. In this passage Jesus was teaching his disciples what it means to

abide in him. Because they understood farming, Jesus said, I am the true vine and my father is the vine dresser.

For clarification he added you are the branches.

So what do we make of this metaphor?

Chuck titled today's message message, abiding in Christ.

And we begin with prayer.

Thank you, Father, for the sacred honor to speak of the Lord Jesus and to direct women and men's hearts to Him.

Thank you for the dynamic hope that there is in these verses of scripture and the truth, the profound truth that is

wedged between these lines and found within these words. Transport us in a brief moment of time to the

first century. Help us to imagine what it would have been like to have sat at the master's feet around that table in that upper room and heard him tell us these things for the first time.

And so may we hear them as if for the first time.

May there be no confusion or exaggeration or misunderstanding.

For this is perhaps the most profound message that believers in Christ can hear.

Therefore, our trust in you is whole, not partial.

We pray that you will superintend the act of worship for the greater glory of our God.

I find it incredible that in these first 11 verses,
