In this episode of Brightheart, we'll be kicking off a short series entitled A Homemaker's Rules for Life,

where we'll work through some foundational principles in the life of the homemaker.

What are we prone to forget in the thick of a busy day, week, and month?

What truths do we need to be tethered to in the gales of motherhood,

the pressure of keeping a home, and the busyness of a productive life lived before the Lord?

For many of you, these won't be brand new ideas.

Most of what we need to hear doesn't fall in that category, after all.

Did I snap at my kids because I just didn't know I shouldn't have?

Was I disrespectful to my husband because nobody ever told me I shouldn't be?

Of course not.

We all need to be reminded of these things from time to time. The first rule is simple. You are not your own. The Heidelberg

Catechism, written in 1563, beautifully captures the heart behind this rule. It asks,

what is your only comfort in life and in death, then answers that I am not my own, but belong, body and soul in life and in death to my faithful Savior Jesus Christ.

He has fully paid for all my sins with his precious blood and has set me free from the tyranny of the devil.

He also watches over me in such a way that not a hair

can fall from my head without the will of my father in heaven. In fact, all things must work together

for my salvation. Because I belong to him, Christ, by His Holy Spirit, assures me of eternal life

and makes me wholeheartedly willing and ready from now on to live for him.

Yes and amen.

You homemaker are not your own.

You belong to God.

And in your belonging to God, he has also made you to belong to others as well.
